In 1956, New Orleans R&B pioneer Smiley Lewis began to have success with his original tune, “One Night.” Elvis Presley took Lewis’s song and re-recorded it in 1957. A month after this re-recording, Elvis once again recorded Smiley Lewis’s song. This time he changed a word or two of the song and released it to the public. The song garnered Presley a lot of sales.
